If They Can Ban This Gun, What Stops Them From Banning Yours Next?

Maryland Just Tried to Ban Some of the Most Popular Handguns in America. Here's Why You Should Be Paying Attention.

Imagine waking up one morning and finding out your state government decided that one of the most common firearms in America is suddenly too dangerous for ordinary citizens to own.

Not because you committed a crime.

Not because millions of law-abiding Americans suddenly became violent.

Not because the firearm itself changed.

But because criminals found an illegal way to modify it.

That is exactly what is happening right now in Maryland.

And if you own a firearm, carry concealed, or simply believe the Constitution still means something, you need to understand why this matters.

So What Did Maryland Actually Do?

Maryland Governor Wes Moore recently signed a law that targets many Glock pistols and Glock-style handguns.

The argument being used is that criminals sometimes install illegal conversion devices, often called "Glock switches," that can turn certain semi-automatic pistols into machine guns.

Let me be very clear.

Those conversion devices are already illegal under federal law.

Criminals are not supposed to have them.

Law-abiding gun owners are not supposed to have them.

The devices themselves are already banned.

Yet instead of focusing on the criminals using illegal conversion devices, Maryland decided to go after the firearms that millions of ordinary Americans legally own.

Think about that for a moment.

If a criminal steals a car and drives it through a crowd, do we ban the car?

If a criminal uses a baseball bat during an assault, do we ban baseball bats?

Of course not.

We punish the criminal.

But somehow when it comes to firearms, many politicians immediately jump to banning the tool instead of targeting the person committing the crime.

Why This Should Concern Every Gun Owner

Many people hear about laws like this and think:

"Well, I don't live in Maryland, so why should I care?"

Because this is how restrictions spread.

One state passes a law.

Another state copies it.

Then another.

Then another.

Before long, what started as a local issue becomes a national issue.

And remember, Glock pistols are not some rare firearm owned by a handful of collectors.

They are among the most popular handguns in America.

Police departments use them.

Military personnel use them.

Millions of citizens use them for home defense and concealed carry.

These are firearms that are commonly owned by law-abiding people for lawful purposes.

That fact is important.

Very important!

The Supreme Court Already Addressed This

In 2022, the United States Supreme Court issued a landmark decision known as the Bruen decision.

The Court made it clear that governments cannot simply invent new restrictions on the Second Amendment whenever they want.

Instead, they must show that the restriction is consistent with the nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation.

In simple terms:

The government does not get to treat the Second Amendment like a second-class right.

The Court also reinforced the idea that firearms commonly owned by law-abiding citizens receive constitutional protection.

That is why many gun rights organizations immediately filed lawsuits challenging Maryland's new law.

They argue that banning some of the most commonly owned handguns in America directly conflicts with Supreme Court precedent.

The Real Question Nobody Wants to Ask

I want you to think about something.

If criminals are already ignoring laws against murder...

Ignoring laws against robbery...

Ignoring laws against illegally possessing machine gun conversion devices...

What makes anyone believe they will suddenly obey another gun law?

Seriously.

What criminal wakes up and says:

"Well, I was planning on committing a violent felony today, but Maryland passed a new firearms restriction, so I guess I'll stop."

That isn't how criminals think.

The people most affected by these laws are often the people already following the law.

The single mother who keeps a handgun for protection.

The retired couple who want a firearm in their nightstand.

The concealed carrier who trains regularly and carries responsibly.

The law-abiding citizen becomes the target.

The criminal remains the criminal.

This Is Bigger Than Glock

Some people think this fight is about Glock.

It isn't.

Not really.

Today it's Glock.

Tomorrow it could be another manufacturer.

Then another.

Then another.

The issue isn't the brand name stamped on the side of the firearm.

The issue is whether politicians can ban firearms that are commonly owned by millions of Americans simply because criminals misuse them.

Because if that principle is accepted, where does it stop?

That is the question every gun owner should be asking.

Freedom Requires Responsibility

Now let me say something important.

Owning a firearm is a tremendous responsibility.

I am not suggesting that people ignore safety.

I am not suggesting that training doesn't matter.

In fact, I believe the exact opposite.

The answer is education.

The answer is training.

The answer is responsible gun ownership.

The answer is understanding the law.

The answer is knowing when you can legally use force and when you cannot.

Because carrying a firearm without understanding the law can be just as dangerous as not carrying one at all.

The Bigger Danger Most Gun Owners Never Think About

Most people spend countless hours researching firearms.

They compare calibers.

They compare optics.

They compare holsters.

They compare ammunition.

But they spend almost no time learning the laws that could determine whether they go home to their family after a defensive shooting.

That is a mistake.

A massive mistake.

Because after a self-defense incident, the firearm is not usually the biggest issue.

The legal aftermath is.

And most gun owners are completely unprepared for it.
